The Last Call Journal..

 

We are in the 21st century, it is not coming. It is here. So, we can not run away from our responsibilities. These are my utterances about the first week in CALL lesson. I want to share my anxiety about this lesson in the first lesson. I feared that I couldn’t do anything. But by means of our teacher, I enjoyed this lesson. I think that I can use everthing that we learned in this lesson use in our classes. 

What is good learning? Using traditional methods or using technology? 

For many educators, using technoloy are music their ears. They say that I don’t have enough time or opportunity  to use them. But, they always have time to give gadgety things. They use grammatical structures, S+V+O…….. Aren’t you bored? 

Fortunately, I am bored and I am ready to use digital story, Story jumper, mobile applications, twitter, podcast and so on. Because we have chance to take CALL lesson. This is evolution, not revolution for me 🙂

The emergence of new technologies pushes educators to understanding and  leveraging these technologicies for classroom use. While many new technologies have emerged throughout history, so has the cry for educators to find meaningful ways to iincorporate these technologies into the classroom. Undoubtedly, without these recent technologies (i.e. digital games, Web 2.0, etc.) in the classroom, strong lessons can still be achieved, but there’s a sharp disconnect between the way students are taught in school and the way the outside world approaches socialization, meaning-making, and accomplishment. When we use technology in classrooms, students are in an active role rather than passive. They can be actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons. “Technological progress provides us with more efficient means for going backwards.”

Lastly, I thank to my teacher for their patience. You are one of the rare teachers that can teach something. And I feel that I learned lot of useful things from you and I certainly use everthing that I leaned in my classrooms. I want to end this smester with the best quatation that I heard. “Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don’t use technology will be replaced by those who do.

I am so happy, our homework is over. Weebly offers a free online website creator. It uses a simplistic widget-based site builder that operates in the web browser. The last job is a designer of a web site. We will add our tasks on the pages. I will share story jumper, digital story telling, twitter account and so on. I think that it is very useful work for us. This project can be difficult for us, but we can succeed 🙂 Let’s start Gülçin 🙂

Podcast and Audioboo..

ıt was the first time I heard these things. Now, I manage to record my voice. It is very enjoyable 🙂 I looked up from internet. It is a radio program. I can listen some radio program and we can improve our language skills. Audioboo allows smartphone users to record and playback digital recordings of up to three minutes in length which can then be posted on the Audioboo website. It is very useful for the users of smartphone. I can use this in my classes. Podcast which you can download some files on your mobile phone. The types of podcasts

Digital Storytelling week..

Digital storytelling.. I have enjoyed while doing this work. It didn’t give much time. It is also very effective teaching style. Where can we use this teaching way? I used it in my class for listening activity. They listened to the story and gave their opinion about it. I asked them lots of questions related to the story and so they were active in class. I showed some vocabularies that were in the text from ppt and I asked them to predict the meaning of it. I gave lots of positive feedback from pupils about this work. The other work was storyjumper. It is very useful thing that we can use in our classrooms. 

WiziQ..

I created a new account on wiziq.com. I think that everyone must have an account on it. Because it is very enjoyable to do sth on it. We can share a lot of things with friends and also download materials and other things shared by our teacher. For example, our teacher shared a video and all of the members of wiziq could watch the video. I want to mention to wiziq.  This  site is designed to help students and teachers find each other, and to provide an online virtual classroom learning environment.  WizIQ also serves as a social networking site to bring together educators and students from around the world. Teachers upload their profiles advertising what they teach, tutorials, their experience. For students, thye can learn from their home and access tutorials shared by subject matter experts. For teachers, they can get their own virtual classroom at no costs and Provides the ability to schedule a session online through a calendar at teachers’ convenience. Shortly, this site is very useful fot teachers and students. Thanks teacher..

this week we learned different things about technology. the first one is campus dokeo. By means of it, we can add documents, videos and our students can watch and read them.

They are very useful for us. When we become a teacher, we can use online class. This system is very useful and interesting for the students. the other thing is nicenet. It allows virtually any classroom, even those with modest resources, access to powerful tools. Everything in Nicenet is offered free for public use, and Nicenet makes no profits from your participation. Nicenet provides you with a new way to communicate with your students and for your students to communicate and share their work and ideas with each other. All students will have access to Nicenet as long as they have access to a computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser.

Call Journals.. Prezi …

This week, we worked on Prezi and our teacher showed us how to create a Prezi presentation and how you will use this tool for preparing our final projects. I think that this program is the best one for us. We can use prezi for our presentations and activities that we will use in teaching and learning environment. We can work with our friends on this program. 

Prezi is a presentation of text and visuals that you zoom in and out of. It is very similar to a power point, except you do not make slides. Instead, you make one big prezi and zoom in to different views. You can show a prezi to others on a computer through your prezi account, or you can link to them. You can also embed them in blogs.

Although we  may find it difficult to handle Prezi at first, this does not mean that it is a complicated application. On the contrary, Prezi is quite easy to handle and I am sure that we are going to find it fascinating..I will prepare a presentation for my students on Prezi. I think that they will like it very much..

Call Journals.. Mobile Learning :)

I wanted to share this video to show the importance of technological devices  with a view to teaching and learning a  language.every child learn differently, so we should use any interactive resources the child’s individual. Mobile learning is the useful way of teaching all of the skills. Mobiles enable us ubiquitous access to information, social networks, tools for learning, productivity. We can communicate everywhere and share whatever we share. For example, I loaded WordPress on to the my mobile and I usually control my web page and follow my friends’ page. Call journals.. Fourth Week..

This week we have learned Yahoo Groups and Webheads. I already know this, but our teacher teach new information about this websites. I want to mention to you yahoo. It is widely known for its web portal, search engine, and related services.Answers, advertising,  online mapping, video sharing, fantasy sports and its social media website.  It is one of the most popular sites in the United States. Yahoo! provides Internet communication services such as Yahoo messenger and yahoo e-mail. Another different thing we have learned PD. I want to mention to you. It is the interactive learning which is the flexibility in learning time. It is economic and useful for us.

Google docs and wikis..

This week was more enjoyable for me, for we learned different things and I realized that we can use google docs, wiki and pb works in our classes. I don’t like writing ıvır zıvır things onto the board. I generally talk to students or use technological materials in classes. When you are writing onto the board, children start to chat and you can lose classroom management. I find these programs very useful for all skills. Google docs is very interesting program that allows us to create documents and we can colloborate on to the documents. Everyone can edit the same at the same time without having to download anything. And we have seen some documents completely open to the Web and allowing eveyone to edit them. Google docs lends itself to colloborative projects in which people work together in real time from geographically diverse locations. They can see the documents and change or add some changes. I think that if we want students to work colloboratively in class, we can work on google docs, and publish our works online on google documents. A wiki is also useful program for us by means of sharing our works and ideas or pictures, videos we want to. I learned that wikis;in contrast to blog, authored by an individual, does not allow visitors to change the original posted material, only add coments to the original content. I found the video very effective,too. It was a great way to teach this kind of subject. I am excited about learning these things. Thanks for your assistances..
